Ship To A Soldier

I realize it's been awhile since I posted on this blog. My studio blog is hoppin' tho! (And I'm gonna post this there too! haha - I'm gonna post this everywhere!!!)

But the last post I made here, was about I Race In Heels, and I recently have been getting active on twitter for it also. I'm posting now, because another female pro drag racer I follow (Tina Stull) is very supportive of our military. She asked us to follow a beef jerky company (Jerky Johns) who was new to twitter, and the 100th follower would win a free pound of jerky! Then we found at that that jerky could be sent to a soldier, and off I was to click the follow button! Turns out... I was lucky number 100! Now, I don't quite know how to read the military addresses exactly (someone tell me!!!), but I googled enough to find out that my jerky went to a gentleman stationed in Afghanistan, 101st Airborne Infantry division I think, and then I don't know if the name after FOB or Attn has to do with his base in Afghanistan, but I hope he enjoys his jerky. He got a letter with the jerky with my name on it (Rebecca Davis) and explaining the twitter contest. Thinking about sending him a card with my I Race In Heels logo on just to wish him well.

Just wanted to share in case you were thinking about a way to send something from home overseas to a soldier!

Blog Award

Emily tagged me for this cute little award! Thanks Emily! and thanks again for introducing me to Black & White Wednesdays :)

Here are the rules -

1. Thank the person that gave this award to you
2. Copy the award and put it on your blog
3. List three things which you love about yourself
4. Post a picture you love
5. Tag five people you wish to pass this award on to

Since I already did the first two....

Three things I love about myself:

• I love that I love myself. does that make sense? I'm just overall happy with myself. And i think that's an important part of life. Learning to love you.
• I love that even if my husband isn't as giving and charitable, that I still feel the need to be.
• I love that I dont let anything stand in the way. I work hard so I can play hard. :)

This is one of many photos that I love. You may have seen it before. near the end of our engagement session with Leslie Spurlock. Hopefully this will make me order this on canvas this weekend ;)

now for the hard part...well... I read most of the same blogs that Emily does. and so I dont have anyone really new to tag. :(

So here's well, four...

Highs, Lows, & Stilettos - April has some great beauty product posts/tips
Bee-Here's the Buzz - another girl in the mustang/racing world
Adventures in life, love, and motherhood - fellow local photographer's personal blog
Behind the Camera - friend from highschool, photographer, follower in Christ

And, ill urge you to go check out (even tho she was tagged already)...

Wifey In Training - Michelle originally tagged Emily. I dont know why i didnt have her saved in my blog roll but I just added her. I found some truly inspirational things in her last few posts.

Memorial Day 2010

Memorial day... for some people, it's probably just a 3-day weekend. a paid day off of work. another reason to BBQ and have a few drinks. or a reason to spend the day at the beach. But for alot of us, it's a day to remember the fallen. our family. our friends. strangers. Those that give their lives, so that we may live ours the way we love to, in the United States of America. I used to be somewhere in between...i enjoyed the day off, and I knew what the day meant. Not until December of 2007 did the holiday take on a whole new meaning. Sure, I knew my great granddad and my grandfather had both served their duties, but they made it out unharmed. But in December 2007, my cousin was killed in action, serving in Iraq. He was such a wonderful man and I looked forward to family get togethers when I knew he'd be there. He was an Eagle scout and a graduate of Texas A&M, and he believed so much in what he was doing in the Army. I was there to watch his plane come home. I'd never seen the patriot guard before. I was amazed at the outburst of patriotism and and honor they shared with us. I was asked to bring my camera with me to the funeral, and I'm so glad I did. I'll share one shot with you.

I still visit his facebook from time to time. and his guestbook. I'm so honored to call him family.

Jodi over at MCP Actions asked her fans to send in some patriotic images for Memorial Day. I sent in the one above and it's posted on her blog. The other entries are worth a look. God Bless our troops! Thank a soldier, and remember those who've given their lives for our freedom.

And this weekend is the Pasadena Strawberry Festival! We're playing mud volleyball for the first time ever! It's going to be a good time. Also this weekend - our 1st wedding anniversary! We've got volleyball and softball games so im not sure what else we'll be able to squeeze in there, but I'll let you know later. I'll see if i can't update this thing a little more regularly ;)

Annnnnd Moving On.

I dont even want to talk about Alicia at the moment. There's so much unknown crap, im just tired of hearing about it...cause i know my family, and it's just not going to change. Plus i've got my mom to worry about and take care of now...So as usual...i'll just move on.

Thanks to Liz over at Blame it on the Toes for sending me the Kreativ Blogger Award! Well it might be the Beautiful Blogger award! I wasnt quite sure! But the rules are the same!

Here are the rules:
1. Thank the person who gave you the award.
2. Paste the award on your blog.
3. Link back to the person who gave you the award.
4. Share seven interesting things about yourself.
5. Nominate up to 7 more beautiful bloggers.
6. Link the seven bloggers you nominate.

Let's see if i can think of 7 interesting things about me that you may or may not already know.

1 - I've played the trumpet for 13 years. It's been a little less frequently since i graduated HS in 2003, but i still play and i play well. I started reading music in 4th grade. Started trumpet in 5th. Moved to a new school halfway through that year, that didnt have band yet. So I moved again to start 6th grade, i was ahead of the game :)

2 - Holy crap I've moved alot. I mean really. No one should have to move as much as I have. It hasnt even been anywhere interesting like another state. or even another country. Just lots of places all over the Austin and Houston, TX area! I lost count a long long time ago. My mom would move one place, I'd move another with my grandma. Mom would get married, id move back there. and this continued til i was 18.

3 - When i was little i wanted to be an interior designer. I'm pretty sure that wouldnt have worked out real well considering my walls are bare.

4 - I've been driving since i was 12. but i didnt get my license til I was 18.

5 - In case i didnt post this in my intro post way back when - we have 3 mustangs. a silver 2000 GT that's supercharged, a black 2000 GT with every bolt on imaginable, and a '66 coupe that's being restored!

6 - I've never met my biological father. And i really dont quite care to either.

7 - We used to travel to Colorado every year. We'd drive through Arizona & New Mexico on the way...When i was little, like 6, i almost fell into the Grand Canyon. I was doing flips on the railing. Way to go me. Mammaw caught me thankfully.

And well...im supposed to nominate some others...but the ones i read have probably already received this thing at one point...so lets see who i can find!

Mrs.LoversKnot - cause she likes fashion and photos!
Cherise - for her new blog to support her new lifestyle!
FutureMrsLewis - for being so freaking creative with her DIY wedding crafts. Now if she'd just update her blog to show off her new table numbers!

That Time of Year

I'm not sure what the point of working out is right about now.

I'm eating..and eating..and eating...

No thanks to my suppliers from work. I'm bombarded with chocolate covered popcorn, chips and salsa, cookies, cupcakes, cheese and crackers, bacon, sausage, pies, candy coated pretzels, and all sorts of other deliciousness like - daily.

Today - I've had - the granola bar i brought for breakfast, lots of mini snickerdoodle cookies, lots of chips and salsa, 3 choc. chip cookies, and two deeeeeeeeelicious vanilla cupcakes that were all cute and decorated for christmas. complete with a reindeer ring on top of one of em. plus my lunch, and some more salsa.

at least im drinking water.

MUST WORK OUT TONIGHT. like. have to. Hubs made a deal with me. i know i posted it before...i gotta get him under 190 lbs by christmas. and i get a new camera. he didnt say anything about my weight. thank goodness. i stay happy as long as im under 150. let's just work out tonight - and NOT get on the scale.

Lending a Helping Hand

This past weekend we went and photographed a benefit golf tournament for Jamie Merendino. Jamie is a childhood friend of a co-worker of mine. She was a cheerleader at UT and graduated from UT in 2005 and now works for D Magazine in Dallas. In June (at age 26) she was diagnosed with Mediastinum Large B Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her brother organized a benefit golf tournament at Belle Oaks Golf Club on Saturday. You can also visit www.JamieFight.com. There was a silent auction at the welcome party on Friday, and between that and the golf tournament, they raised $23,000!

We were at the golf tournament from 8-1 on Saturday morning - the mosquitos were brutal!! I think I have over 40 bites. Over half of them are on my butt. Those suckers bit through my blue jeans and ignored the 3 layers of off i had on. But I think the photos turned out nice, and ill have those ready in a couple days.

On the way up there, I was driving the truck. And Justin said: I like how the seats sit in the truck. I can see your belly and it's pudgy. Oh thanks honey! And then he said that I should get pregnant just so he can see how big I'd get. Really? that sounds like a great reason! On that note - im still under 150 lbs and he's still under 200. We've recently started the biggest loser workout DVDs and im friggin sore. A good sore. but sore. Havent seen results yet, we've only done the workout like 3/4 times. But this week we're going full force, ever day, and maybe ill lose a couple lbs. I have about 9 lbs to lose and justin has almost 30! So he can shove his little pudgy belly comments up his you know what! ha!

PS - I realize i havent blogged about Vegas. I dont really know why. But i will. Maybe tomorrow. :-p

I Don't Like to Fail, who does?

You know how everyone always says, if you put your mind to it, you can do anything? Well, i just said it again. haha. but i think it's true. My entire life, I've been so used to success. However, success can mean many different things to different people. I didn't have an easy childhood. We shopped at goodwill and i was a nerd with glasses and braces. But I was successful. I made the honor roll and won awards at school. I was in UIL Spelling and always placed. 5th grade started band for me. I played trumpet. I practiced and practiced and I was first chair. Jr year of high school, I was section leader! I was a squad leader as a sophomore. I won awards in theater for best actress and competed in district/regional/state competitions for the performing arts. I moved out, and got my own place, and worked 2 jobs to keep it that way. I've been at my current job for 4 years, and recently got promoted. I started school not knowing how to crop a photo on the computer. And now i do photography, and love to edit photos, and im graphics teams for clubs. All of that is success to me. If I want something, I go for it, and I don't stop til I get it. I started thinking about this last night when Justin was showing me some guitar chords. I was getting so frustrated. But I'm going to learn. He taught himself, and I'll do the same. I taught myself piano, and I'm going to teach myself guitar too. Yep. I know i can. And I'm going to. Just dont expect to see me on YouTube.

We are NOT Fourteen anymore.

It's almost 11 oclock, and i just finished chatting with my youngest sister on facebook. She's 14. The kid stays up til the wee hours of morning every night and sleeps til noon. Those were the days man. Well, we thought so then didnt we? Except now we're old enough to realize that that's a total waste. It's much more satisfying to see the sun rise, to enjoy a beautiful day, and not be the vampire she apparently thinks she is with this Twilight obsession er something. i'd like to blame it on that anyway....but i know it's not. and im way too tired to get into what i really think about that. It's 11 oclock. My face is about to fall lifelessly onto my computer desk. It's 11 oclock!!! WTH is wrong with me. Oh that's right. My bed time is 9 and im an adult now...with responsibilities. 9 is the norm.. In most cases i would be perfectly fine right now. But in most cases, i would be at the movie theater drooling over Ryan Reynolds, or driving down beltway 8 with the hubs and the radio as loud as it will go singing "don't worry be happy", or doing 105mph down the 1/4 mile drag strip, or editing the photoshoot from the day before, or proving to the hubs that I can, most definitely, kick his butt on guitar hero. But i'm not doing any of those things at the moment. We played guitar hero earlier. Right now, he has taken over the living room tv. And the bedroom tv. By playing xbox with friends and having the 2 rooms connected. My vision is blurred, and I haven't had a single alcoholic drink this evening. I'm going to pretend it's the good ol' days, and go fall asleep in his lap on the couch.
